It may be the middle of summer, but the staff at All Faiths Food Bank isn’t taking a break from the fight against hunger in our local community. On July 19th, the agency announced the dedication of its newest food truck to The Mosaic Company.
The new refrigerated vehicle, which was purchased with a grant made possible in part by Mosaic, made its first delivery to Trinity United Methodist Church in Arcadia. As a result, more local families than ever will have access to nutritious food.
DeSoto County’s population extends across a largely rural geographical area with no centralized distribution center for people in need of food bank services. So, the mobile pantry is the best option for delivering and picking up produce and other assorted goods in these hard-to-reach areas.
Many of us may never have to make the difficult choice between food and providing medical care, housing and other basic needs for our families. But millions of Americans do, including about 58% of DeSoto County’s 35,000 residents. In 2017, All Faiths provided 905,000 pounds of food in DeSoto County.
